FRC Use Policies & Philosophy

FRC Statement of Philosophy
Approved by SBCC Academic Senate on July 19, 1995
"That the use of the Faculty Resource Center (FRC) equipment be restricted to the classified and certificated personel of Santa Barbara City College and that they must be certified as competent to use the equipment they intend to use. It is the responsibility of the Faculty Resource Center staff to certify them."

Comments: Intent of this policy is to exclude tutors, college work study students and general fund students from using FRC equipment and it is within the realm of FRC to require a certain level of expertise on the equipment.

Proposed Policy for Faculty Professional Development Days

Professional Development Days are intended to provide faculty with up to two days per semester to participate in activities that will increase their ability to promote student learning and achievement. Professional Development Days can be used to support such activities as participation in department/division instructional planning sessions and the acquisition of new skills and knowledge through such means as hands-on training, workshops and seminars.

The Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Vice President of Student Affairs, in consultation with the Academic Senate and the College President, will develop guidelines and procedures for Professional Development Days.

These minimum conditions will apply:

  1. All contract faculty in the department must participate in the activities included in the department's Professional Development Day plan.

  2. Evening classes will be held on the days(s) scheduled as Professional Development Days. All classes beginning at 5:00 p.m. or later are considered evening courses.

  3. In order to comply with state regulations on the percentage of courses that must be offered on a day of instruction (at least 50%), up to four divisions may select the same date for their Professional Development Day(s) if they wish to participate in collaborative activities.

  4. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, The Professional Development Day(s) will be held on the day(s) of the week in which the fewest number of participating department's day classes are scheduled.
