I began working at Santa Barbara City College in 2015 and these days I mostly teach English C1000 and English 111. I like to organize English C1000 and English 111 around broad themes that all students can find a way to relate to; for example, my English C1000 course explores California as both a place and an idea. I find that having a relevant theme in these kinds of general education courses helps students to write meaningful work, while also encouraging the development of a vibrant classroom community where we can learn from each other. 

I graduated with a BA in Literature back in 2004 from UC Santa Cruz. I then worked a variety of jobs both inside and outside the field of education, before returning to school for my Masters in English, which I received from San Francisco State in 2012. When I’m not teaching, I like to hang with my family, read a lot, write (fiction mostly), and go on adventures.
