¡Raíces: First Year and Beyond! is a first-year experience and student empowerment program at Santa Barbara City College that supports Latiné students and students from all walks of life by celebrating Cultura, Conocimiento y Communidad.

Why join Raíces?

Raices offers the following support services to students:
  • Join a network of Raíces Scholars
  • Access Raíces Courses and Academic Counseling
  • Receive College Advising and Guidance
  • Connect with our peer advocates
  • Access to a study space, free printing, and school supplies
  • Get support with class registration
  • Participate in academic, cultural, community, and career events

Who can join?

ALL students are welcome to join ¡Raíces: First Year and Beyond! There are no requirements based on background, such as age, ethnicity, language, ability, financial or legal status, or GPA.

Raíces Program Commitments

When you join Raíces, you join a familia of academic advisors, counselors, faculty, and fellow Raíces scholars who will support you in the creation of your own unique educational journey.  Raíces Scholars are encouraged to participate in the program by engaging in the following three commitments:

  • Enroll in Raíces course(s) every semester if they follow your education plan.
  • Attend Raíces events every semester.
  • Meet with a Raíces Academic Counselor or Raíces Program Advisor every semester.
